Nje, asubui, Tabu amekaa anachambua mchicha. Sura yake imeharibiwa vibaya. Mama Visa anafika na kustaajabu anapomuona rafiki yake. "Nimekuta hii chini ya mlango wangu leo" anatangaza, huku akionyesha kipande cha karatasi na kuanza kuisoma. “Nimemuua mke wangu, na mtoto wake pia. Msinitafute naondoka! Shemeji.Ina maana gani hii?" anauliza.

"Ni kama unavyoona." anamjibu Tabu. "Mahusiano mengine yalioshindikana".

Mateso anatoka nje. Anamajiraha usoni ya kipigo cha mpenzi wake Mama yake, na amebeba begi. "Mama

naondoka." anatangaza na yeye.

Tabu anamwangalia kwa upole. "Unaenda wapi mtoto wangu?" anamuliza.

"Sina uhakika, lakini sitarudi mpaka nitakapokua mtu mzima na kupata hela za kututosha mimi na wewe."

Mateso anamjibu kwa uhakika.

Tabu anasimama. "Hapana mateso, bado uko shule, bado ni mwanafunzi."

"Hapana Mama. Siwezi kukuona ukiteseka bila kufanya jambo lolote. Naondoka. Nakupenda." Mateso anamjibu. Anaondoka.

"Unaenda wapi namna hiyo?" Tabu anabembeleza. "Nakuomba usiondoke. Mateso rudi sasa hivi. Bado ni mtoto mdogo. Wewe ni mtoto wangu." anafoka. "Mama Visa, nisaidie!"

Mateso anaondoka taratibu. Tabu anamuangalia na kuanza kulia.Mama Visa anatingisha kichwa.

Inside the recovery room the next morning, Tabu is in bed resting, her slender body

covered only with a worn hospital frock. Next to her Mama Visa who is holding the new born,

leans over and kisses the baby, then kisses Tabu and hands her her baby.

"Congratulations. You have yourself a lovely baby boy. He's a big boy.

That's why he was so troublesome. What are you going to call him?" Mama Visa asks Tabu.

" This was a difficult pregnancy, but in the end it turned out well. I am thankful to God.

He shall be called Mateso".

Mama Visa's face shows concern. " Be careful with names that bring bad luck in the future!"

she snaps.

"Don't worry, we'll be ok." Tabu replies as she looks at her new bundle of joy

Inside the reception area of the hospital Tabu is half conscious on the floor. She is placed on an old metal trolley and is pushed into a labour ward by an old nurse with a happy face, With Mama Visa in tow.

Tabu enters the delivery room, and the screams of a woman can be heard, followed by the cries of a new born baby. Outside the delivery room Mama Visa smiles to herself.

Ndani, chumba cha hospitali mchana. Tabu na mtoto wamepumzika kitandani. Pembeni Mama Visa anambusu mtoto na kumbusu Tabu.
"Hongera. Umepata mtoto wa kiume. Mtoto mkubwa!" Mama Visa anamrudishia mtoto kwa Tabu ambaye anampokea.
"Ndiyo sababu alikutesa sana. Utamwita nani?".
"Mimba hii imenitesa sana, mwishoni mambo yote yamekuwa salama. Namshukuru Mungu! Kwa hiyo ataitwa Mateso".
Mama Visa anaonyesha wasi wasi. " Uwe mwangalifu na majina haya ambayo yanaleta bahati mbaya siku zote za baadaye!" anamwambia rafiki yake.
"Usijali" Tabu anamjibu.

Onyesho 1
Ni Usiku, nje, njiani kwenda hospital Usiku, Mama Visa na Tabu wanawahi hospitlini. Tabu ana mimba akiwa na uchungu amemwegemea Mama Visa.Kuna mawingu mazito angani, na uso wa Tabu unaonyesha kiasi cha uchungu alicho nacho.

"Jitahidi shoga yangu, tumekaribia kufika hospitali." Mama Visa anamwambia.
Tabu anakighughumia kwa machungu. "Nimechoka sana Mama Visa. Ningekuwa na uwezo ningejitua mzigo huu sasa hivi" anamjibu.
"Hatujafika bado. Jitahidi" Mama Visa anamjibu. Kuwa mwanamke ni ujasiri. Baada ya hapo hutasahau mateso yako yote tabu. Ndiyo, utasahau!
Tabu anainama kwa machungu, akiwa amechuchumaa. Macho ya Mama Visa yanaangalia mbinguni na mvua inaanza kunyesha. Wanaendelea kutembea hdi wafike mlango wa hospitali na kuingia.
